Hepatitis B Virus Carrier Follow-up
HBV (Hepatitis B) is a disease caused by a virus. Virus can make a lot of liver cell into death and damage liver function. Most infected people with the virus will become lifelong HBV carrier. There are also chances of developing chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis, and even liver cancer in the future. According to statistics, about 8% of the population of Hong Kong is a HBV carrier.
The long-term effects of hepatitis B carriers
According to statistics, about 25% of the hepatitis B virus carrier could possibly develop into chronic hepatitis, cirrhosis or liver cancer, and these conditions will generally appear at the age of 50 to 60. Therefore, carriers should be checked regularly to monitor liver function and liver health for early diagnosis and treatment.
